However, for many years I new a little bit ABOUT God, but I didn’t know HIM. Pause on that statement for minute and let it sink in for effect.
I knew about God, but didn’t know Him.
For example, you can learn lots of information about Zac Efron. You can know things such as his birthday, the movies he’s starred in, even his favourite foods and vacation destination preferences, etc. A quick wikipedia search can reveal all kinds of interesting facts about Mr. Efron.
However, at the end of the day, you can Google someone all you want, but never really know them. I’ve never met Zac Efron, and probably never will. I don’t know him, no matter how many factoids fill my computer screen.
We need to know God. Not just know some things about Him, but actually know Him. Meeting someone isn’t something that you can force. Until Zac Efron and I happen to run into each other on the street, or a friend in common introduces us, we’ll have never met. You can’t force it. It takes a real life encounter to truly know someone. We need to seek a real encounter, a real meeting, with God.
On the other end of this spectrum, we have people who have had an emotional encounter with God. They might know Him, but might not know anything about Him. With any friendship, we can’t consider someone a friend if we never speak to them, never spend time with them, don’t know anything about them etc. Likewise, with our relationship with God, we need to be learning more about Him everyday. We need to be listening to Him and the Word He has spoken to us.
Not only do we need to KNOW God, we also need to KNOW ABOUT Him too.
Do you know God? Introduce Him to someone who doesn’t.
