Many times we focus so much on Christmas, that we forget the importantance of Advent. What is Advent, why do we do it?
Advent is a liturgical devotion, a time of fasting, and increased prayer, to prepare us to receive Christ. We remember his birth when, "the word became flesh and dwelt among us" (John 1). We also remember and prepare for his second coming, and the end of our earthly life. Yesterday, TV celebrity Paul Walker passed away in a tragic car accident. Prayers go out to his friends and family mourning this loss. These circumstances give us an admonishing reminder of our mortality and to take nothing for granted. For we do not know the hour...
Sometimes we forget that this season of preparation is not the "Christmas season", which comes after, but rather the "Advent season". In the business of this time, let us make time to prepare our hearts to receive our saviour. Let's reflect on the reason for this season and use this as an opportunity to grow closer to our Lord.
Finally, let us pray for all those who are hurting, who are lonely, who are in need, and use this time as an opportunity to reach out to those who may not have encountered the love of God. Be the light.
Have a blessed Advent!

It is true, we must understand the true meaning of Christmas. Sad death of Paul, never really know our time, so the importance of watching ..
Nicely said, and simply put. We all need these reminders to slow ourselves down and focus once again on what the real meaning of the Advent season is all about. it's about preparing our hearts to receive, with awe and wonder, into our midst - our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Thank you Chris!!
