ALBUM HELP: Plastic or Cardboard?

As I have mentioned before, I'm going to be looking to you (supporters, consumers, and listeners) for some decision making help with my new album. The first question I have for you is this:

SHOULD THE ALBUM PACKAGING BE MANUFACTURED WITH PLASTIC OR CARDBOARD?

Before you answer lets, explore both options.

The first option and the option that is still mostly used is the standard plastic jewel case. Most CD's you see in retail stores are made of hard shell plastic, and they are formed in a shape called a jewel case. This type of packaging protects the actual disc from being folded and bent. However, this is not the most economical packaging available. In my experience, jewel cases usually get discarded when you put the CD in your car, or RIP it to iTunes. This type of packaging is also not the most environmentally friendly option for our planet.

The second option is using cardboard packaging. This has many benefits including being more economical, more environmentally friendly, and is smaller and more compact. However, this option doesn't allow for as intricate designs in packaging and is slightly less protective to folds and bends.

My question to you is this: DO YOU CARE ABOUT PACKAGING? Would you rather pay for the music or the packaging? I'd like to offer you inexpensive music, and give you the packaging digitally. What do you think I should do?

This is your opportunity to have a direct impact on the decision making for this album! I want to hear your thoughts!

I mostly care about the music on it. ;)

you could always do what JJ Heller did with her Painted Red album. She did the cardboard but made it where she could do an insert like you would do in a jewel case for the lyrics. This allows for the more intricate design in packaging as well.

i don't think it is important to have the jewel case, though it does look nice, but is probably a little more wasteful. go with a cardboard package of some sort, sleeve works, but there are other cardboard options as well. do digital and cardboard packaging. you're right to try to keep it inexpensive, especially if you want to be sensitive to the financial situation some people are still facing.

peace and God bless!

I think going with cardboard is a good choice.
